
HISTORY
From the Yixing region of China (120 miles northwest of Shanghai), these teapots possess an astonishing history dating back to the Sung Dynasty (960-1297) when purple clay was first discovered. Yixing teapots flourished and matured in the late Ming and Qing Dynasties (1573-1911). The British an Dutch initially shipped various Yixing teapots to the West. The Yixing teapot has maintained its unique reputation both in China and abroad. They are renowed as the “best vessels for brewing” by Chinese tea aficionados and used for Chinese Ceremony tea known as Gongfu style.
CRAFT
Artisans making these teapots must serve a long apprenticeship under the guidance of established masters. They receive vigorous training in all aspects of craftrs before mastering their techniques. Artisans utilize purple clay containing natural minerals to create beautiful products of various forms. All the teapots are hand-made with the seal of the artisan on the bottom of the pot, making each one unique.
BENEFIT
Yixing teapots have the unique ability to absorb tea flavor with continued usage, becoming more and more seasoned with each use. The unglazed fired clay contains tiny air pockets providing insulation for enhanced taste and aroma. All teapots are lead free.
